Message from the New President

November has gotten off to a great start. We've gotten an early snowfall and some of the die-hards among us dusted off our old skis and glided as best we could among the rocks!

Many thanks go out to all those involved with the Club!  It takes a lot of volunteer hours all year long to make this organization possible. We want to give special thanks to outgoing President, Tom Daer. Under his leadership for the past four years, the club has grown in numbers, purchased new grooming equipment, built a storage facility at Pattee Canyon, developed a website, and started grooming the main corridor of the Rattlesnake. Whew! That's a hard act to follow, Tom.

There are some other changes in the board this year as well.  Tory Kendrick is replacing Ed Van Aelstyn as Treasurer (Thanks, Ed) and Eva Karau is taking on the work of Secretary.

So far this year, we've had some success working with Powell Ranger District at Lolo Pass to try to get some early season grooming and improve the condition of the trails up there. The workday at Pattee Canyon was a success and the annual party/potluck was attended in record numbers!  Everyone seemed to have a good time. Thanks to Open Road and The Trailhead for their support!

Also new this year, the club is fortunate to have the enthusiasm and knowledge of Mike Myers from the Rossignol Team to develop a Junior Program and to do some adult coaching as well. Missoula Nordic Ski Club hats are available for a $25 donation to help raise money for the junior's program. Anyone interested should contact Mike at 728-5769. Let's not let this opportunity pass us by. Please help support this program so that it will be available for the future!

I look forward to seeing everyone out on the trails:)

Kathy McGann, President

Some Fun, New Ski Programs to Try

Missoula Nordic Ski Club's new vice-president, Mike Myers, just happens to be a veteran Rossignol Ski Team member and is bringing some of that experience to a few programs for club members this year.  Take advantage of his experience to add some zip to your ski training this year.

Junior's Program

Details of the junior program are still being finalized, but Mike is a motivating, fun coach so the kids should have a good time and learn a lot.  Parents interested in having a child participate in the junior ski program should contact Mike Myers at myersm8@netscape.net or 728-5769 or check www.missoulanordic.org for updates.  Want to help finance the juniors program?  Buy a great looking Missoula Nordic Ski Club hat for $25.  Proceeds go to fund the kid's ski program.

Tuesday Night Headlamp Skiers

The Missoula Nordic Ski Club has formed an adult cross-country ski-training group that meets on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Pattee Canyon Recreation Area upper parking lot.  The program is open to those 18 and older of all abilities from beginner to advanced racer.  Content includes all aspects of Nordic skiing:  dry-land workouts, on snow technique and wax clinics.  This is an opportunity to learn the latest techniques, theory and practice from an experienced skier and coach.  Headlamps are required for the workout.  A fee of $150 includes instruction, clinics, and a Missoula Nordic Ski Club ski hat!  Contact Mike Myers for information at myersm8@netscape.net or 728-5769.
